Dr. Gabriel Castillo is a senior sustainability scientist and executive manager with over 22 years of experience in the extractive industry, implementing sustainable programs with complex operations in the mining, oil and gas sectors in North and South America. Currently, Gabriel is the Director of ESG & Sustainability at AtkinsRéalis. Gabriel has led multi-disciplinary teams of engineers, environmental, social, and scientific professionals to conduct major social-environmental assessments, corporate strategic executions, and ESG initiatives. Gabriel is an engineer by training and interdisciplinary by design. He adopts sustainability and interdisciplinary vision, as a strategy to improve processes and manage corporate risks, pursuing growth and adding value to business and society.
Additionally, Gabriel is Director of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM) Environmental and Social Responsibility Society (ESRS) and leads the Working Group on Environmental, Climate Change, Genomics, and Mine Closure. Gabriel is an Adjunct Professor at The University of British Columbia.
