Bio:

Ms Oberholzer has 28 years of experience as a civil engineer in the water field.  Her technical experience covers all aspects of a water projects, from feasibility studies and preliminary planning through to design and contract supervision and management. She has been actively involved and leading several large integrated water resources management studies in South Africa, such as the international Noordoewer/Vioolsdrift Feasibility Study,  the uMkhomazi Water Project Feasibility Study (including the proposed 81 m high Smithfield Dam, a 32.5 km x 3.5 m diameter tunnel and a 47 m high balancing dam), the Lusikisiki Feasibility study for the proposed Zalu Dam and distribution infrastructure. Hermien has managed and co-ordinated different task teams (water resources, water requirements, groundwater, environmental authorisation, public participation, feasibility study and design of dam and bulk distribution systems, international, institutional and finance) from both the private and public sectors.

Hermien is currently the Senior Principal Engineer Water and Civil Infrastructure for AngloPlat, and focuses on the water security of our Platinum mines and doorstep communities in a water scarce country. She drives the Sustainable Mining Plan’s strategic water pillars for good water stewardship, including operational excellence, towards reducing fresh water through reuse or the use of alternative poor quality water.
