Bio:
Ms. Raquel Nomathemba Mazwi (Neé Majola) is currently the Director: Mining & Industrial Water Quality Regulation. at the Department of Water and Sanitation – Head Office – Pretoria.
She has a BSc. Honours (Chemistry) Degree obtained from the University of the Western Cape in 2001 and has been employed at the Department of Water and Sanitation since 2002 and has largely been responsible for water quality management and water resource regulation throughout her career.
She has been championing water quality management programmes in the Department for years including the Establishment of the Anti-Pollution Task Team and has worked extensively with mines, to ensure that they comply with the required legislation.
Ms. Mazwi has managed a number of projects in the Department such as Jan Dissels River Compulsory Licensing Project which has been the first of its kind in the whole country, Bulshoek Illegal Water Use project, the Sandveld Integrated Water Management Plan, etc.
She is currently the Project Manager for the Waste Discharge Charge System, The Waste Discharge Standards and Compliance Monitoring to the Resource Quality Objectives (with a focus on the quality parameter) as well as overseeing the management of the 3 Acid Mine Drainage Plants in Gauteng.
