BHP produly sponsors Water in Mining 2019

BHP’s purpose is to bring people and resources together to build a better world. They do this through their strategy to deliver long-term value and returns through the cycle.
BHP are focused on the resources the world needs to grow and decarbonise. Copper for renewable energy. Nickel for electric vehicles. Potash for sustainable farming. Iron ore and metallurgical coal for the steel needed for global infrastructure and the energy transition.

A resources mix for today and for the future.

BHP’s water stewardship vision is for a “water secure” world by 2030. They aim to advance that vision by improving their own management of water, supporting shared approaches to water management in the regions where they operate, and engaging with others to improve water governance, increase recognition of water’s diverse values and advance sustainable solutions.

More water: less energy/waste/space/chemicals/maintenance/etc...Harmony Desalting is making brine concentration more affordable & sustainable with membrane processes. Since 2014, researchers at MIT and elsewhere have been working on the ultimate separation technology: batch desalting. The thermodynamics indicates that a batch process is the most energy-efficient approach. Rapid salinity cycling means reduced risk of membrane fouling and less need for chemical dosing. And since our patented process uses standard desalination equipment, it’s readily scalable. We’ve shown that it works, so now we’re taking it out of the lab and into the field.
